South Peoples Projects (SOPPRO) was established in 2004 for Francophone asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, especially and not exclusively from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroun. It aims to create opportunities for and encourage active volunteering as a means of capacity building and learning for asylum seekers as a contribution to Welsh society; to relieve poverty amongst African people in Wales, to increase education and training opportunities for refugees and their dependents, to raise awareness of an remove myths about refugees and asylum seekers to increase community cohesion and to encourage the entrepreneurship.
SoPPro is a member of
The Community Space partnership
THE COMMUNITY SPACE PARTNERSHIP is a partnership of eight community groups formed as a response for the need to provide a central venue that will enable those (mainly) refugee and migrant communities to meet, to carry out separate or joint work and to share information, experience and expertise. The organisations offer educational, cultural and social support to their beneficiaries; they signpost to other organisations to help with particular issues such as isolation and language barriers, accessing mainstream services and information on rights and responsibilities.
