South Peoples Projects (SOPPRO) was established in 2004 for Francophone asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants, especially and not exclusively from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo-Brazzaville, Cote d'Ivoire, and Cameroun. It aims to create opportunities for and encourage active volunteering as a means of capacity building and learning for asylum seekers as a contribution to Welsh society; to relieve poverty amongst African people in Wales; to increase education and training opportunities for refugees and their dependents; to raise awareness of and remove myths about refugees and asylum seekers to increase community cohesion; and to encourage entrepreneurship.
During its two decades of existence, SoPPro has acquired expertise in all projects involving the shared history of the British Isles, and especially the United Kingdom and Africa, especially with the Democratic Republic of Congo, or rather the former Kongo Kingdom, now divided into three countries resulting from colonisation: Angola (where its former capital Mbanza Kongo or San Salvador is located) also known as the Portuguese Kongo, the Democratic Republic of Congo or the former Belgian C. Kongo Belge et l'actuel Republic du Congo ou Congo Brazzaville ou l'ancien Congo Francais, surtout sur la vie et l'oeuvre des explorateurs et surtout missionnaires ayant travaillé au COngo et donne leurs vies pour les Congolais, certains etant décedes y. In the UK, SoPPro is a member of a number of corporations, including the Sub-Saharan Advisory Panel (SSAP), Wales for Africa, Wales Black History, and the African Foundation for Development (AFFORD), and works in partnership with a number of organisations, including the Welsh Refugee Council, Refugee Voice Wales, etc.
One of SoPPro's achievements was to be part of the Community Space Partnership, a network of 8 small organisations that came together and were awarded by the Tudor Trust Fund and Big Lottery Fund, and manage a tree-floor community office and rooms in Newport.
Our Objectives:
- The relief of poverty amongst African people in the UK and Africa, including but not limited to asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants.
- To advance: the education and training of those granted refugee status and their dependents in need thereof so as to advance them in life and assist to adapt within a new community.
- To advance: the education of the public in general about the issues relating to refugees and those seeking asylum.

Objective 2015 Caravan - GET INVOLVED
(Page under construction)
“Each generation must discover its mission, fulfill it or betray it, in relative opacity.”
(Frantz Fanon, The Wretched of the Earth)
"We the peoples of the United Nations .."
(Charter of the United Nations preamble)
"O.2015.C" stands for "Objective 2015 Caravan". After being involved in couple of Active Citizens projects in Cardiff, after being involved in international volunteering projects, after being and contributing in several meetings, conferences and workshops about the poverty problem in the United Kingdom and in Africa, I then decided to design a new vision that could benefit, not only to people of Newport and Wales, but also to people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I am originally from. I know that it is a real big challenge, but we do have luckily in Wales many examples of successfully projects (PONT, Newport Grossroots, etc.) that could become our role models and I met many welcome people who are willing also to become our godfather.
O.2015.C. The vision is very simple. In 2015, the United Nations and the World leaders will evaluate the agreed Millennium Development Goals. An investigation and personal statistic showed that only 0.5 % of Newport based people know about the MDG and less than 2% know about the United Nations and also that we could be involved in close the poverty gaps in the south countries and that we could be involved in worldwide activities like climate change.
The vision is that, we are dreaming and want to work very hard that in 2015, during that evaluation, Newport also wants to put its name in that map that we have achieve something, even little, about the MDG. In fact, we are dreaming to strength the now started and launched link between Newport and Bokoro; we are dreaming to bring some volunteers from Newport to Bokoro; we are dreaming to advocate and to lobby our ideas and to be part of that worldwide movement and campaigns.
We have already received some supports from main of our leaders and politicians. Their names will be added soon.
What could we deliver at Bokoro?... We will avoid reinventing the wheel. We will copy and link some of our Newport community projects and activities; some of them are really wonderful initiatives: The Newport City Radio, Urban Circle and its young people project, the Life Music Foundation, the Bike recycling project (SEWREC), students could benefit by involving in filming and photography projects.
Let’s dream to link Newport-Bokoro-New York, with Newport dot to be on the 2015 map of those who have delivered the MDG.
